From what I understand, this building used to be a workhouse prior to it being the Hospital. Unfortunately, it is due to flattened and made into apartments and/or a hotel towards the end of 2006/early 2007. It is also a Grade II listed building. The site comprises the Hospital, a Mortuary, Nurses Quarters and Washroom.
Nurses Quarters - downstairs
Our group consisted of John, Nicky, Tricia, Marg, JM and myself. The temperature was registering in at 15 degrees.
Tricia was capturing some "orbs" on here camcorder. Nicky was feeling dizzy/sick in this room. The table had begun to vibrate but not much else happened in that regard.
A clicking noise wasa heard by some of us in this room, but not personally by myself and this remained an unidentified source.
Nicky heard a noise which seemed to eminate from the corner of the room and the name David was identified – was this a previous caretaker or someone who used to work at the workhouse/Hospital?
John continues asking out to “David” to make a sound, tap on something, basically anything to let us know of his presence. John and Nicky hear a whistle type of sound, unfortunately I did not witness this myself.
During our time spent in this room and listening back to the Dictaphone, there is part of the vigil where discussions are happening in the background from the group and a sound on the Dictaphone is apparent. The only way I can liken the sound picked up is as follows; if you were to do a whistle type of expression with your lips and say the word “few” i.e. almost getting a two sound effect like a high and low pitch together.
Nicky also experienced a blowing in her face. One further name was identified and this was Williams.
Nothing else really happened in this room at this point.
Nurses Quarters, side room, downstairs
Same group as before.
Various "orbs" were being captured on the camcorder. There were various EMF colour fluctuations in this room. The temperature was registering 14.6 degrees and fluctuated between 13-16 degrees.
John identified the name Lilly and Nicky gets the name Sue in this room.
On listening back to the Dictaphone recordings in this room, it sounds like the name Jane comes through...
Nothing else really happened in this room.

Washroom, Laundry and Side Room
I didn’t personally experience much in the laundry or washroom areas, but Nicky picked up on the name of Thomas, a young boy, in the laundry room.
John and I went into the narrow passage like room just off of the main room from the laundry. John was sensing something was in the room with us at my end. The room seemed to go darker with no natural explanation.

Abbey Ward South
I picked up on a sick smell when first entering this area which appeared to dissipate as soon as smelt. There were various EMF fluctations in here.
John was pacing in this room and Nicky had a similar feeling of wanting to pace. John also picked up on an old man near the window area.
We had movement from the table. Nicky asked out to identify and define yes/no movements to our answers. We also appeared to be getting knocking through the table as a confirmatory sign. Nicky then proceeded to ask whomever had been contacted, to move the table to the person(s) known to them in this room –this turned out to be Tricia. It appeared to be a relative of Tricia's and personal messages were coming through, which will not be divulged here for privacy reasons.
Nicky then proceeded to ask whether there was someone missing from our group who was usually there? This received a positive response. She then asked for the table to be taken to the person to whom the person is connected to... again, this was Tricia (Keith was missing).
The name of Thomas, a young boy, was also sensed in this area.
Someone who Tricia knew, “Andy”, came through with some information that she needed to check up on. This name was also to come up on a further investigation that Tricia’s group would conduct, which was at a different location.
The table then proceeded to move towards John in a different part of the room. Three other people were identified as being present in the room with us, 2 of which were apparently related to Nicky and Tricia.
This was all that happened in this room.
Castle Ward North/Old People’s Room
We arrived in this area at 01.45 a.m. This room comprised of the style of chair found in an old people's home. The temperature registered fluctuated between 15-16 degrees.
A knock in the room was heard by the group. A lady in one of the chairs was being picked up by Nicky. A breeze was also experienced by Tricia and Marg. People were also experiencing being touched on the head by something.
Initially, we did not get much movement from the glass on the table. However, eventually, we did begin getting responses. It would appear that a male was coming through with the indication of knowing someone in the room… Tricia then proceeded to ask a series of questions as follows:
Have we spoken to you tonight? Yes.
Will you respond better to Tricia asking the questions? No response.
Are you ok speaking to me? Yes.
Is it you Andy? No.
Is it somebody I know? No.
Is it somebody that Tricia knows? No.
Is it you Andy? No.
Is it Harold? No.
It transpired to be another relative of Tricia and Nicky… Nicky proceeded to ask a confirmatory question to confirm identity, this was duly received. Further contact was made, this time it was apparently a female. Questions asked were - did you used to live, work, stay here – no response was received to any of these questions. No further movement occurred on the glass after this time.
I ventured into the Ward area briefly, which was reached from this room. There was a feeling of something in there – but what, I can honestly say I do not know. John also had a walk around the Ward and said he sensed a male presence in there. All I will say, is that the Ward area is a large place to be in on your own!!

Quiet, nothing happening here.
Room to the side of the Rehabilitation Unit
Different group of people for the rest of the night's events.
I did not spend a lot of time in this room, but did take a few pictures, one of which shows an "orb" above the group holding the séance. I did not personally experience anything in this room.
Rehabilitation Unit
The only people present in this room was a member of DPH and myself. Unfortunately, I did not experience anything in this room.
Nurses Quarters, Upstairs
There were 3 particular rooms upstairs that I wanted to look into. Myself and a member of DPH were the only people to go into these rooms at this time. The rooms I will describe as being (1) lounge like in appearance; (2) bathroom like and (3) tiny box/bedroom. For these rooms I utilised one of my crystals.
Positive responses were coming through for the lounge and box/bedroom. The first 2 rooms, as identified above, were almost welcoming, in a strange way. Nothing specific experienced or identified in these rooms.
I would like to point out here that the crystal indicated the lounge room as being a place where something had happened, but I personally didn’t think this was the case out of the 3 rooms.
Moving onto the box/bedroom was a completely different matter. Upon reaching the door to this room, the feel was completely different. There was an extremely bad, uneasy oppressive atmosphere in here. When walking to back of the box/bedroom I apparently looked up, I don’t know why, it was just one of those odd feelings - which anyone who investigates will know exactly what I mean. Here, I felt as if I had to duck down for some reason, like I was trying to avoid catching/bumping into something.
Afterwards it was confirmed by the DPH member that this room is where a nurse had hung herself and where I had looked up is where she had hung herself!
Abbey South
Table work appeared very successful in this Ward, various EMF fluctuations up to red on several occasions. Apart from this, not else really happened.
Mortuary
EMF fluctuations were occurring in here. Apparently, this room is known for having a vortex/portal. For those of you who do not know what this means, it is basically a doorway for things to enter through.
A shoulder to shoulder séance was decided upon in here, swaying occurred but I personally put this down to a group and people generally moving about, not intentionally, just as that given situation would produce.
Apart from the EMF fluctuations occurring, nothing else happened in here. The EMF meter had been placed on the floor in the middle of the circle.
General Information
A previous visit to this site by DPH has a picture of what can only be described as a white shadowy figure, which I think was taken in the Abbey South Ward area…
General Information ascertained after the Investigation
The site was closed as a Hospital late 2005. It was built on the site adjoining the old Shardlow workhouse and poor house. The original building was demolished around 1970…
