An unusual place... table tipping, possible hanging or strangulation, despair!
Initial Walk Around
Base line readings were:
The Stage area - 23.8 degrees
Bottom of the step ladder leading to cellar/torture room - 15.5 degrees
The cellar - 12.4-13.4 degrees (depending on where you were stood)
The Cellar
02:00 a.m. – 02:40 a.m. began vigil in the cellar.
Initial temperature on the main walk through is 13.1 degrees
Asked out the usual set of questions i.e. if anything was present with our group to make a sound, touch someone, tell us the name, year, a message generally etc (to indicate a few)... asking out the usual questions. On checking the dictaphone at a later date after the vigil had ended, no evp was apparent in this area.
As there are 2 known wells in this area of the cellar, I decided to ask the dowsing rods to show me where the water was (as a standard control). The result was positive and located the correct area. These wells are no longer used and are sealed off. I used this question as a standard.
Nothing much happening down here
Three of us went into the side cellar at the rear of the actual cellar. Again, asking out the usual questions, no apparent evp. The temperature in here is recording at 13.1 degrees. No activity.
Returning into the main cellar area, the temperature is recording at 12.4/5 degrees. Questions asked, nothing apparent. One experience that both Steve and I felt was that of almost weighlessness very briefly, which was quite a strange feeling. A couple of other members of this group also said they were experiencing this sensation...
Back in the long corridor area where you walk down and round and it leads you back to the main stairwell entrance where we came in, the barrel drop is what I guess this area is known as. The temperature here is 13.1 degrees. No responses to questions being asked either physical or on dictaphone recordings.
Whilst using the crystal, indications were that activity would become apparent in the cellar/torture room and the stage areas. This is something to remember and refer back to when reading the report later on...
Cellar/Torture Chamber
Approximate start time for this vigil 02:45 a.m. - 03:15 a.m. (although we were probably in this area a while longer than this) and the temperature is registering 14.7 degrees in this area.
Carl joined our group in this area. This area can only be accessed by descendeding a step ladder from The Stage area, at the bottom of which you stand in another room (store room), from here there are brick steps which twist narrowly down into this room. The rest of the steps leading down here are, I believe, sandstone – very precarious footings. Once in the "torture room" there is a smaller room with an open doorway and window frame. However, it should be noted here that there is no daylight down here and no apparent openings for breezes to come through.
Quite a lot of moving orbs were being picked up on camcorders, together with the feeling of something moving around the lower leg area which was witnessed by a few members in the group. Lisa is standing in the side room doorway of this area.
Quite a few unexplained noises were picked up on the Dictaphone which at this moment remain unexplained. Investigations are currently being made into the camcorder recordings to see if anything had been picked up on there to correlate with the dictaphone recordings. The temperature is currently 14 degrees rising to 16. At various times during this vigil and on asking out questions, the temperature varie between 16-20 degrees. Steve mentioned on numerous occasions that he was witnessing a cold draft/breeze behind his back and both Steve and I noticed a daft coming between us. At this stage he is at the side of the room near the window frame operating the camcorder and I am on the opposite side sitting on a ledge built out of the wall area. Current temperature readings are between 14.9-15.0 degrees at this point.
Another strange noise identified on the Dictaphone recordings which sounds almost like Andy or Mandy.
The temperature reading in door frame and window frame are both 15 degrees.
A further noise is identified on the Dictaphone that sounds like "John”. A further noise is identified which sounded like that originally picked up on - the only way this can be described is almost as a medium pitch tone of some kind??
On asking “did you die in this room” I picked up on the name of Thomas – but unfortunately no surname. At this point another draft goes past Steve’s back. I experience a weird feeling around my neck. I ask whether anyone knew of any history relating to The Bell Inn and hangings - no-one was aware of this. Steve again felt a penetrating coldness down his back and I witnessed a further draft around the lower leg area.
A flashing light was seen on the main stairs area by some group members, but not personally by me.
We hear some kind of scraping sound (which I personally heard - perhaps someone caught something on the wall?? - one possible explanation). Another group member witnessed what they described as a scream type of sound likened to that of a child but from a distance, which again was also heard by other members in the group but again not by me personally.
Discussing the neck feeling with Debs later on, she mentioned that this can be a sign given out of someone who has either being hung or strangled! She said she had also experienced this down there too – she was not in our group when this happened...
The Stage
Some of us decided to conduct glass divination in this area. I had the strangest experience at this time - it felt like I was being tipped off my chair i.e. on 2 legs rather than 4 – no-one was behind me, no-one was doing this. This happened on 2 separate occasions. It was almost like that side of the room was tilting upwards and pushing towards the table… I cannot explain that one, it was one of the strangest experiences I have witnessed!! The Thomas individual that I picked up on down in the "torture room" appeared to come through again and apparently linked in with me because I reminded him of his wife in times gone by (hmmm). Other information gained from this session was that Thomas had 3 children, 2 girls and one boy, his wife was the same age as me and he was older. It felt like he was in deep distress and that it was a wrong doing, the feeling that he was hung for whatever it was but it was the wrong reason and he was quite sad and distressed on the table session.
Everyone came together towards the end of the night's events in The Stage area. The occasional sound was heard, but perhaps this was the building's natural sounds i.e. cooling down etc. Whatever they were, they appeared to be emanating from the step ladder leading down to the "torture chamber" area...
Overall - a good if not unusual investigation! One to return to at a later date...
