gardens where an apparition has apparently been spotted
This investigation was organised through Derby Paranormal Hunters and staff at Elvaston Castle - a fantastic, friendly group of people who look after you.
Atrium and connecting area
Unfortunately in the group I was with, we did not come across anything particular in this area. There was an occasional bat keeping us company. There are various rooms leading from the atrium. Chairs were placed in the corridor as trigger objects, but no movement of these took place. Some orbs were detected, but as this and the surrounding area appeared to be under construction, I suspect the majority of these arose from dust particles from people moving around the area. Other groups did, however, have some kind of experiences, but I cannot comment on these as I was not personally in attendance.
Panelled Room
In here there were lots of “orbs” picked up on camera stills – see below. This room is allegedly haunted by a monk.
Although there was nothing particular to note in this room at the time, things became apparent after leaving the same. One of the girls in our group apparently had a breath sound down her ear. This unsettled her and she felt unable to continue with further vigils in the building.
When replaying and listening to my Dictaphone after the event had ended, it was in this room that a noise, of which I can only describe as sounding like a cat meowing, was apparent. There was nothing in this room that would make this noise. What was it? I have no idea and I am unable to explain it away by natural sources.

The Kitchen
Apart from being a very large and cold room (broken window panels), capturing a few “orb” like pictures and having the medium present, nothing was picked up.

The Mourning Room
Again, the Medium was present with us.
Glass divination was set up for use in this room, in addition to general “sit around” vigils.
I have to say that glass divination is the most bizarre thing I have experienced to date. All I will say is that if you get a glass and push it you feel an obvious move i.e. that someone has pushed it, which seems straight forward and logical. However, this felt completely different. I do not know how it works insofar as subconscious thought processes etc, but I think I know how a glass feels when someone deliberately pushes it. This was not like that at all.
Initially the glass did not move. It was only when the Medium joined us that things started to pick up. The Medium was picking up on a little boy called William. The glass appeared to move in what was deemed a positive/yes movement. When asked whether William’s mama was with him, by the Medium, the glass moved across the table in an almost straight line and then twisted across to the right hand side of the table. The Medium asked where William’s mama was standing and the glass then shot very fast to the same point of the table, having returned the same to the centre of the table.
Lady Harrington's Bedroom
It is alleged that musical keys on this item have been heard.
Nothing was experienced here in our group.
Nursery
An occasional dip in temperature was experienced by some members of the group, but the thermometer used by one member did not register any major fluctuation in this respect. At one point during this vigil, it appeared as if the door had opened. However, we (as a group) were unsure as to how far this had been opened on entering the room. One member did close the door at one point, but again, it appeared as if it had opened. Perhaps this could be put down to the door jamb stability etc. Other than this, nothing particular was experienced.
Overall
Elvaston Castle would be an interesting place to return to, purely to see if anything different occurs.
Unfortunately, not much really happened in the group I was with. Although I would like to add here that several other groups apparently experienced something. What? I do not know as I was not present when it occurred.
I think if I return to the Castle, the rooms I would personally like to focus on are the Panelled room and the Mourning room.

It has been said that on previous vigils (prior to this one) and from staff at the Castle, that some say experiences have been encountered in this area.
I have to say that I did not personally experience anything in this area on this vigil.
