In the UK, Law states that psychometry must only be used as a training aid as to hold an object while purporting to be making a link to the spirit world, is an infringement of the provisions of the Fraudulent Mediums Act 1951. It is argued that the information obtained from psychometry is not a spirit link if it is being obtained from an object. It is therefore necessary to put the object down when moving from a psychometry reading to a mediumistic one.
Psychometry is a psychic ability in which a person can sense, interpret and/or read the history of an object by touching it. It has been said that when we touch an object we are injecting our own personality onto the same. It is a form of scrying and a way of seeing something not ordinarily seen. The psychic may be able to sense what the person was like, what they did and even how they died. Emotions especially, it seems, are most strongly "recorded" in the object rather like that of an audio tape.
Psychometry is also the method that a lot of psychics use when working with the police, especially when trying to locate a person. The psychic or medium will be given an object which belonged to that person and/or a photograph of them. The handling of such an object in these circumstances can help to create a psychic link to that person.
It should also be borne in mind that an object can and usually has been handled by more than one individual, therefore someone using psychometry may provide information not relevant to the current owner of said object. It is a combination of normal psychic awareness plus the ability to read the energy patterns that we all leave on the objects around us.
